How Things Come to Be
— Experiments, prototypes and processes behind qiqi:qiqi
Founded by Miao Tan and Siying Cui, qiqi:qiqi is a material-led creative studio developing tactile objects through experimentation, intuition and making. Their signature pieces include sculptural horsehair brushes and richly tactile lacquered paper. Rather than beginning with a fixed outcome, their process often starts with the material itself, exploring how it moves, responds, changes and interacts with the hand.
For this talk, Miao and Siying will share how they first began making things together and how qiqi:qiqi gradually took shape. Through material samples, early experiments, prototypes and finished pieces, they’ll trace the development of several objects and share the decisions, accidents and discoveries that shaped them along the way.
A chance to look beyond the finished object and into a way of working led by material, touch and intuition.
Location: The Studio at Oil & Dust, Lewes, East Sussex, UK
